Good Morning Christmas Tree

The first thing I thought of when I woke up this morning was, “Two more days until Eunie gets home!” It’s a reasonable thought, I think. After forty-three years waking up next to each other, it can get a little lonely when the other half of you is not in attendance.

Feeling somewhat more cheery than the last few days (okay, weeks), I grabbed my camera and stepped out on the veranda. Whoa! Interesting sunrise:

A Rambunctious Sunrise

It seemed that someone was napalming the Madang Resort Hotel. Fortunately, it was just the sun coming up.

See the big luxury yacht near the middle? I’ve heard it’s owned by a rich American woman. Anybody know for sure? Does she like to party? I’ve not seen anybody hanging around the boat.

So many questions . . .

Lurking under the banana trees are my favourite lilies. These delicious orange ones bloom all the time and don’t mind the shade:

Last Saturday the water was so filthy that I was reduced to taking photos of Christmas Tree Worms. They are pretty, but not very exciting to stalk. If you’ve snorkelled around here, you’ve probably seen them. They come in a sumptuous array of yummy colours. They are about 2-3 cm tall.

Christmas Tree Worms

Aside from the fact that it seems unlikely that they are something other than strange little Japanese toys scattered around the bomies, their most amusing characteristic is that they retract down their little tunnels, if in the least disturbed, so quickly that it’s impossible to see the movement. Hey – look! I’m here – now I’m not!

They are the Houdinis of the reefs.
