Cigs are very expensive also. <em>Buai</em> is cheap and highly available. The effects are wide-ranging and serious. A friend of mine just lost his best friend from mouth cancer. He was less than thirty years old. Unfortunately, PNGs see <em>buai</em> as an feature of their culture. Take a really harmful substance and build a culture around it. I think the Niuginis start to be a bit... outgoing when chewing betelnut... They are not afraid anymore or introverted. They touch you more often, some of them are even quite rude!
