A Hen’s Party and Melbourne Cup 2009 Combo
This Tuesday was Melbourne Cup Day. It’s arguably the biggest horse-race event in Australia and it’s a very big deal here in Papua New Guinea. Country Women’s Association has traditionally hosted a party for the event. This year was a bit different from the last one that I attended.
Work prevented me from attending this year until my wife, Eunice, called me at the office to suggest that she was ready to be picked up at the CWA Cottage. I was mildly surprised to arrive to a room packed full of . . . uh . . . happy women who descended on me, the only man present, as a plague of locusts. It was like a dream come true.
The dual-purpose party served also to celebrate the impending marriage of Karen Simmons to Trevor Hattersley. I suspect that the intensity of the partying (not to mention the number of empty Champagne bottles) was due to the nearness of the wedding at which I will participate as the Celebrant on Saturday.

I really love that image. It’s one of the best photographs that I’ve ever captured. It’s not technically perfect, but it has a beautiful voice – like a Paul Simon love song.

I’m looking forward to the Wedding on Saturday. It will be a pleasure to be the Celebrant at the marriage of two of my fondest friends. These things come along only a few times in one’s life. It’s a blessing to me.

Jan, on an entirely unrelated note…I’ve been liking the new font you have in your header…I know you were experimenting with some in an earlier post, and the 3-D shape and the shadows of the font look very cool..and also the fact that the font somehow (does it do it automatically?) picks up the colors in the header image. Really like the overall effect.
But, now I see you have a new header image and font!
Like this too…very bright and pro looking….like how it fades at the top of the letters….
Steve, I’m actually using a header rotator script. I have a folder on my server where I put all of my headers and the script selects one at random to display. I think that I have about twenty there now. I add more as I get nice panoramas. The script is not from the theme. I have that turned off. I add the script while I’m working with the image in Photoshop. That’s why each one is different.
If you just click on the header while you are on the “home” page, in a few seconds you’ll get another random one from the headers folder. I think that there may be a way to rotate headers with a wordpress.com site, but I’m not sure if you can do the fancy text. Some of mine are pretty over-the-top. It’s just a toy.
That’s totally cool. You can change your header with some of the custom themes but it’s far from an automatic process. Neat toy!
